Rabbit hair felt, cardamom essence
70 x 16 x 16 in
My previous life as a dancer infiltrates my work with implications of movement and transition, as does my family and personal storyline of diaspora and physical loss. Working by hand, and drawing from insights and questions arising from my histories, abstract forms develop without specific end goals. Primarily 3-dimensional in soft fibers such as fur felt, and sometimes alongside other natural materials like wood and fragrance, the sculptural result may indefinitely pause mid-stream, appearing to a viewer as burgeoning or as entropy. I’m most pleased when someone finds something in the work that differs from my view, and leaves with questions. (N.B., the word ‘raba’ means ‘bog’ in Estonian.)
