Almost a decade ago, during my fifth and final psychiatric ward stay, the constant feeling of being misunderstood morphed into an epiphany: channel it all into art. My emotions and states of being are most accessible to others through art. Guided by my neurodivergence, I investigate the ontology of consciousness through mixed media, often incorporating discarded materials as an ode to our Earth.
My work challenges ingrained notions of hegemonic domination, systemic violence, and the exploitation of each other and nature. While creating “Blooming Wish,” I envisioned a future built on harmony and respect rather than institutional violence and harm.
“Blooming Wish” is created atop a foundation that would otherwise end up in a landfill: a broken glass vessel. My overall creative process embraces metamorphosis, adaptation, and liberation. This mirrors how I artistically alchemize my own past suffering, as well as the suffering of others and the environment, into prismatic forms of optimism, care, and blissful wonderment.
